PBIS IS a prevention-oriented way for school personnel to (a) organize evidence-based practices, (b) improve their implementation of those practices, and (c) maximize academic and social behavior outcomes for students.
PBIS supports the success of ALL students.

WHAT IS PBIS?

Positive Behavior Intervention Supports (PBIS) is a system for teaching and supporting positive behaviors and

meeting the needs of ALL students. This school-wide approach to discipline focuses on building a safe and positive environment in which all students can learn.

The foundation of PBIS at Mountain View is our five REACH expectations:

  • Respect

  • Effort

  • Attitude

  • Cooperation

  • Honesty

To reinforce the REACH expectations, our behavior matrix is taught and posted in each school setting across Mountain View campus. Positive behavior and noise level expectations are explicitly stated on posters and taught in all classrooms. Positive recognition for students who exemplify REACH are embedded in the program along with behavioral supports and intervention when needed.

MUSTANG MOTIVATION

In addition to classroom based management systems, Mountain View recognizes students demonstrating REACH expectations school wide through:

  • Bimonthly REACH assemblies where awards are given to students who exemplify the focus expectation of Respect, Effort, Attitude, Cooperation, or Honesty.

  • Mustang Money is earned when a student shows REACH characteristics. A student can earn this money at any time of the day and from any staff.

  • Weekly Mustang Market where students can spend their money on prizes, privileges and rewards.

  • “Bucket Filler” daily acknowledgments with prizes and recognition during morning announcements.

  • Academic Awards Assemblies for grades 1-3 every trimester and annually for grades 4-6.
